Kumu's Song
Oil on Linen, 48" x 36" x 1.5"
Painted from life and completed over a few years, this piece was modeled by Kumu Brad Lum. Brad would come over and talk story, sing, play music and fill my studio with magic. The painting evolved organically, with the layers of abstraction around him representing all the unseen energy manifesting as he played and sang. The pieces he is wearing hold special significance, his Lei Po'o headband was made by his mother, his Melemele(yellow) Kihei representing the color of O'ahu wear he was born.
This painting was featured in the “Go Figure” exhibitiion at the Downtown Art Center in Honolulu.
